This is a childproof type of cap which screws on to external threads on the neck of the container. The cap comprises two assembled components, an inner nut which screws on to the neck and an outer ferrule which is normally sprung axially to a disengaged posn. in which it can rotate around the nut. The ferrule can be displaced axially against spring resistance to bring the ferrule into engagement with the nut so that the two elements rotate as one. Driving engagement between the two elements is provided by axially extending teeth on one element and corresp. lugs, each with an adjacent, elastically deformable catch, on the other element. One element is pref. moulded complete with spring flaps which hold the other element elastically in the disengaged posn. until the cap is operated. On both elements the projections, i.e. teeth, lugs, catches and spring flaps are of simple profile and extend parallel to the axis of the cap. The injection mould design is simplified and the caps can be produced cheaply at high speed.
