A self-healing electrical capacitor comprises a case of wound sheets of synthetic material (e.g. a polyolefin, esp. polypropylene), at least one of whose surfaces has been metallised (e.g. with Zn or Al). The case contains an insulating powdery desiccant (e.g. SiO2) whose m. pt. is 1000 degrees C. which fills the space between the windings and the case and/or between the windings.
