The main flow pipe passes through a regulator which contains a weighted piston creating a constant pressure drop across an orifice as a function of the weight. The branch circuit leads from just upstream of the piston to the solids reservoir and returns to a point just past the piston in the direction of flow. The flow rate in the branch is controlled by a single dosage valve. The reservoir is pref. vertical, the liq. entering and leaving at the base, and is arranged so that the height of solids remaining in the reservoir has no effect on the rate of dissolution. Dissolution pref. occurs only over a third of the height of the solids, and the reservoir is raised above the flow pipe such that when the device is shut down, no liq. is left in the solids region of the reservoir. The device can be used to dissolve measured amounts of sterilising agents in swimming pools, and for any industrial process requiring steady dissolution under controlled conditions into a liq. stream or body.
