Tundish outlet pipe for continuous casting of steel - where pipe contains refractories which reduce corrosion by casting powder

Casting pipe in which (part of) the graphite in the conventional refractory granulate, employed to mfr. the pipe is replaced by =1 refractory oxide and =1 refractory metal. Oxides may be directly mixed in the granulate, and then the metals added, esp. using oxides of ZrO2 and/or Al2O3. Alternatively, the materials may be associated as a cerment, which is milled before adding to the granulate. Oxides and/or metals may be used in addn. to the cermet. Materials are pref. employed in a finely-divided state. Used as the outlet nozzles on a tundish used for the continuous casting of metals, esp. steel, where the bottom end of the nozzle or casting pipe dips below the surface of the molten metal in the mould. The granulate resists attack by the casting powder used on the surface of the molten steel in the mould.
