The grip for retaining the end of a magnetic tape in a hub of a spool includes a channel (2) in the spool with an opening (8) receiving the loop (4) of the tape and the retaining peg (5). A gap (10) is cut out to the opening from the edge of the spool (9). The opening (8) is larger than the retaining peg (5). At the mid-point in the height of the peg is a narrowing in the opening (8) against which the peg pivots and is held. The narrowing of the opening (8) comprises inwardly projecting portions having semicircular profile.
