The installation is of the type in which loaves are passed through a slicer to produce regular slices in rows which are arranged alongside each other on a accumulating table. The rows are then advanced longitudinally into the oven. The improvement is that advancing of the rows into the oven is effected via a feeder comprising a dead-plate rising at 5-30 degrees to the oven entry an overheated paddle conveyor pushes the stacks up the feeder deadplate. The feeder conveyor pref. comprises pivoted paddles fitted on endless chains and actuated by cam guides. The accumulating table is pref. horizontally aligned with the slicer discharge to receive rows of slices delivered transversely. The filled, accumulating table then pref. tilts to align its surface with the deeder dead-plate. A push-bar conveyor is pref. used to transfer all rows simultaneously longitudinally from the accumulating table on to the feeder dead plate. The rows of slicers are maintained scrupulously in distinct rows from which individual slices are peedled off successively on the oven conveyor. Slices are correctly spaced without side overlap or doubles, so satisfactory toasting is assured with minimum waste.
