Polyester-coated phenolic foam insulation for concrete building slabs - to protect the insulated concrete from external moisture

Composite insulation panel comprises a layer of cast phenolic foam covered on one face with a waterproof skin and on the other face with an impermeable coating which also lines superficial cavities or pockets provided to key the layer of foam to an adjacent layer of lightweight concrete. Pref. the panel is made by coating a mould with a styrene-based paint, a polyester gel coat resin and a layer of polyester resin, opt. reinforced to provide the water-proof skin. The phenolic foam is sprayed on to the polyester skin, the spraying being adjusted to form a superficial skin to prevent subsequent penetration of the body of the foam by the cast cement. Pref. the borders of the polyester cover are wrapped around and trapped between the concrete and the foam layers. Used for constructions where the concrete is protected from external weathering by the impermeable composite foam insulation.
