1536952 Linkwork MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 5 March 1976 [3 June 1975 25 June 1975] 09049/76 Heading F2K A remote control cable comprises an inner thin flexible strip-like core, e.g. a metal or plastics tape 11, slidably carried in a central recessed, e.g. channelled portion of an outer flexible guide sheath, e.g. a single metal or plastics tape housing, strip 13, having a series of longitudinally spaced rectangular apertures formed between bridge-like cross pieces 31, 32, which cross-pieces 31, 32 are integral with but alternatively offset to either side of parallel edge pieces 30 to form the central recessed channel in which the tape 11 is slidably carried, the tape 11 and housing strip 13 being encased in a plastics coating 34. The ends of the tape 11 are formed with holes 12 to which 'T' or crossshaped guide followers (40) (Figs 15 and 4, not shown) are connected by pegs (41a). The guide followers (40) are each slidably mounted in a built-up plastics block (50) (Figs 5 to 8, not shown) having integral resilient hook-like projections (58) by which the block assemblies (50) can be simply snap-fitted to the casings (61, 71) of remotely spaced master (70) and slave (not shown) control units. The master control unit (70) may comprise a manually rotatable knob (74) fast with a scroll cam (75) the groove (76) of which engages a downwardly extending peg (43) of the cross-like follower (40). Alternatively, (Fig. 9, not shown), the rotatable knob (74) is replaced by a manually pivotable lever (96), the peg (43) of the follower (40) engaging a disc (92) of the lever (46). Spring-loaded ball detents (78, 79 or 97, 98) serve to locate and retain the knob (74) or lever (96) in any required setting. Alternatively, the master control unit may be formed as a two position toggle (101) (Fig. 10, not shown) or simply as a spring-loaded, push-button device (303, 304) (Fig. 11, not shown). The upwardly projecting peg 42 of the crosslike follower 40 serves simply to readily engage the downwardly extending peg 43 in its appropriate groove or notch (76, 93, &c.) during initial assembly of the master and slave control units, the latter, i.e. slave control units, of which may be mechanically controlled electrical circuit devices such as variable resistors, variable capacitors, variable inductors and switching circuits in which the slave control elements are linearly movable to engage a contact (83) thereon with one of a number of contacts (85) (Fig. 12, not shown) or are formed as rack-and-pinions for rotationally controlled electrical circuit devices (Fig. 13, not shown).
