Oil tankers with segregated ballast tanks

An oil tanker is provided with segregated ballast tanks in the form of tanks (41) within the vessel's hull and one or more tanks (43) welded to the vessel's upper deck. Such an arrangement facilitates the provision of segregated ballast tanks in existing tankers while minimizing loss of useful oil- carrying tank space (42). Furthermore, the tanks (43) can be welded to the upper deck at locations selected to reduce problems of trim and structural loading of the tanker. IMAGE
