PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of black smoke after repairing a furnace wall by a method wherein the supply of fuel to a heating chamber is halted, and gas diffused from the peep holes of combustion chambers corresponding to carbonizing chamber portions whose joints are cut, is forcedly fed into adjacent carbonizing chambers. CONSTITUTION:When the repair of a furnace wall of a coke oven 1 is completed, covers 7 are opened which correspond to several peep holes near to an oven port 6, at where black smoke is formed particularly remarkable, among a peep hole 5a row and a 5b row of both combustion chambers 4a and 4b holding a carbonizing chamber 3a just after the charging of raw coal is finished, and seize bodies 8a and 8b, whose lower surfaces are opened, are placed on the portions and cover them. In this case, the supply of fuel to the combustion chambers 4a and 4b is stopped, and a plate damper of a waste gas disposal system is closed. The generation of gas is inhibited by the halt of the supply of fuel, and generated gas entering a heating chamber from joint cut portions is expelled by opening the covers 7 and by closing the plate damper. The several peep holes are covered as mentioned above because joints are cut at the location of the carbonizing chambers corresponding to the several peep holes.
