The Assessment of Smoke Leakage from Coke Ovens during Carbonization, an Agreed Uniform Technique

A method, developed to assess smoke leakage, involved: (1) classifying the sources of leakage under eight separate headings, for example oven doors, ascension pipe caps and charge-hole-lids; (2) grading the leaks into five groups ranging from no leak to extremely severe leak; (3) using a standardized monitoring procedure comprising five specified conditions and (4) presenting and interpreting the results employing standard individual surveys and calculations.
