PURPOSE:For stabilizing the operation of air heating furnaces, to set the preheating temperature of the air for combustion to a fixed value. CONSTITUTION:The preheating temperature of the waste gas from an air heating furnace 2, i.e. the preheating temperature of the air for combustion, is detected by a temperature detector 16, and thus-obtained detection signal is fed to a main controller 14 and compared with the setting value from a setting means 15 there. Thus-obtained indication signal is fed to a driving means 12, and an auxiliary preheater 11 actuates to raise the temperature of the waste gas of said air heating furnace 2. When the preheating temperature of the air for combustion has risen to a proper value, said preheater 11 stops. When the preheating temperature of the air for combustion from said air heating furnace 2 has risen due to the firing for example of said preheater 4 on the contrary, indication signal is fed to a driving means 13, a flow adjusting valve 8 opens properly, and the waste gas of said air heating furnace 2 is discharged through a chimney 5 without passing through said preheater 4 to decrease said preheating temperature. When said preheating temperature has come down to a fixed value, said valve 8 is closed.
