A method of connecting metal components to a butt seam by TIG welding of the processed root face and possibly by the application of filler layers likewise by TIG welding, characterized in that for the production of dimensionally accurate components for nuclear systems, in particular nuclear carrier structures, the components on the root face which is to be welded are provided with a butt surface having a width of at least 5 mm and the latter are pressed against one another, that the electrodes which do not fuse are symmetrically centred on the root face which is to be welded, that the root face is then through-welded simultaneously from both sides in a manner known per se with equal welding current set for the two electrodes and contrived to be such that the transverse dimensions of the common fusion bath with respect to the direction of the electrodes do not exceed the width of the butt surface, and that following the cooling of the welding bath of the root face the filler layers are applied symmetrically and simultaneously to both sides.
