The step-by-step motor has a multiple stator. Each stator pole position has a number of magnetic elements placed on sides opposite to an airgap. A non-magnetic element is inserted in the spaces between the ends of magnetic elements on each of the sides opposite to the airgap. Each stator pole (12) has a winding(20). Movable units(22) are placed in the airgap. The movable units includes a number of passive magnetic elements separated by a discontinuous non-magnetic material. The movable units and its elements have shapes such that all the movable elements are always contained within the airgap. A magnetic force acts of the movable magnetic elements from both sides of the airgap. The movable magnetic units have also non-magnetic material discontinuities designed to eliminate longitudinal stray flux.
