An arrangement which lifts a mixt. of oil and water and delivers it to a system of channels for sepn., forms part of a floating scavenging vessel for the removal of an oil slick. The system of channels is in two parts. The first part consists of a number of first channels positioned alongside each other. Each of these has a bottom and two standing walls. These first channels open at one end close to the lifting arrangement at its upper end, and run downwards from there. In the downwards direction, the breadth of the bottom of these channels diminishes whilst the walls increase in height. The second part consists of a number of channels alongside each other, which run horizontally. Each of these has a bottom and two standing walls and they are joined to the first channels. The height of the second channels is much greater than their width. In each second channel a separator is fitted which is hinged on a horizontal axis. A detecting arrangement is also provided which adjusts the free end of the separator to the separation plane of the oil and water so that these are drained away by separate channels. Used to remove oil from the surface of water at high speed by means of equipment which can be used under conditions of rough weather.
