Ignition system for IC engine with two electronic switches - has limiting diode for primary voltage and capacitor discharge for energy release

The ignition system is for an internal combustion engine, which has two electronic switches. One electronic switch is in series with the primary of the ignition coil and controls a current through the coil when switched on. The second electronic switch is triggered by a control coil. The second electronic switch is in series with the primary winding and a capacitor charged by a converter circuit. When switched on it discharges the capacitor through the primary winding. The voltage across the primary winding (5) of the ignition coil (6) increases to a value limited by a diode (20) to that of the charge capacitor (7) when the first electronic switch (9) is open. The current through the primary via the control coil (21) flows to the capacitor (7) via the diode (20). The flow is broken to release inductive ignition energy.
