Prodn. of skis comprising layers or plies of synthetic resins, plastics or other dense materials and layers of reinforcement. The surfaces to be bonded with an adhesive are treated with a liq. thermosetting condensate of HCHO with urea, melamine, phenol, resorcinol or a combination of these in admixt. with a hardener. The coated surfaces are dried until the solvent has evaporated and they no longer feel tacky. The layers are then stacked and pressed at a temp. high enough to flow and cure the resin. Used for mfr. of skis usually comprising upper layers of ABS, glass fibre reinforcement, a foamed plastic or wood core and a sole or base usually of polyethylene. Using this method. The prodn. time is decreased and avoids the problems of epoxy adhesive allergy.
