Polyolefin fibrils - coated with low mol. polyolefin grafted with polar monomer, useful in mixed cellulose-polyolefin paper

Polyolefin fibrils are made by passing a molten mixt. of (a) a polyolefin of normal mol. wt., (b) a solvent and (c) a low mol. wt. polyolefin grafted with a polar monomer, through an orifice under such conditions of sudden release that the solvent is vapourised instantaneously and the polyolefin solidifies in the form of fibrils. The fibrels have improved dispersion properties in water and improved compatibility with paper pulp. They are esp. useful in the prodn. of mixed. cellulose/polyolefin papers with improved properties.
