Abstract of the DisclosureDifunctional compounds wherein one of saidfunctions is a hard or soft atom that ionizes to thecorresponding anion in alkaline solution to combine withsilver cation and the other of said functions is a non-ionizable soft base that additionally combines with saidsilver cation are employed as silver halids complexingagents in photography. In a preferred embodiment, thedifunctional compound possesses (a) an O, N or C atom thationizes to the corresponding O?, N? or C? anion in basicsolution and (b) and -S- containing moiety excluding -SH andmoieties that from -SH in basic solution wherein the -S- ofsaid moiety is positioned alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilonor zeta to said anion.
