PREFORMED ANTERIOR LABIAL RETAINERABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA retainer comprising a portion located against thelingual tooth and tissue surfaces for holding a wire againstthe labial surfaces of the anterior teeth, which is knownas a Hawley Retainer, is preformed as a molded piece of ashape and of a material permitting fitting to a patient bya method which includes reshaping of the preform directlyin the mouth of the patient, thereby eliminating the need tofirst form a cast of the patient's teeth. Several preformsof different sizes form a set which will fit mouth sizes ofsubstantially the entire dental patient population. Thematerial is designed to soften for non-elastic manipulationagainst the lingual surfaces at a temperature above bodytemperature but below that temperature at which the tissueswithin the patient's mouth would burn.
