Abstract of the DisclosureA single-sample method for determining concentrationsof individual lipoprotein classes and lipids in blood byturbidimetric measurement. The blood serum is mixed with anionic-strength-sensitive agent for forming an insolublecomplex with the chylomicron, very low density, and lowdensity lipoprotein classes, and the ionic strength of themixture is raised in steps to cause progressive dissolutionof each class of complex from that of highest densitylipoprotein to that of lowest density lipoprotein. Measurementof the turbidity due to the insoluble complex(es) present ateach step allows calculation of the turbidity due to thecomplex of each individual lipoprotein class and from thatthe concentration of each lipoprotein class and lipid in theblood sample.
