COLLAPSIBLE TUNNEL LINER SECTION AND METHOD OF LINING A TUNNEL

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA collapsible tunnel liner section formed froma number of arcuate segments each connected together byhinges to form a closed loop. In collapsed condition thesegments are arranged in a compact stack having a crosssection less in its maximum dimension than the internaldiameter of the erected liner section. Typically thestack has the appearance of a figure 8, having upper andlower cavities. Expansion means are located within thesecavities and are expanded to expand the collapsed tunnelliner section into its erected condition. During theexpansion the liner section passes through an oversizedcondition before assuming its final erected condition.This ensures stability for the erected liner section.After erection, grout or other filler material is insertedbetween the liner section and the wall of the tunnel.- 1 -
