The teeth of a circular saw are formed with hard metal tips(1, 2) arranged so that precutting tips(2) alternate with finish cutting tips(1). The radius of the precutting tips is slightly greater than that of the finishing tips. The front and rear faces of each tip are parallel and inclined at an angle to a radial line. The side faces of each tip taper towards each other in the inward direction. This feature ensures that there is only a line contact between the tips and the saw cut so that friction during cutting is reduced.
