Anhydrous Na2SO4 crystals and/or Glauber salt is made simply and economically by evapn. of Na2SO4 soln. The soln. is initially directly or indirectly cooled to 32 degrees C (i.e. to the region where solubility rises with increasing temp.) until the solubility is less than that to be encounted at the highest temp. to be used subsequently. The soln. is then heated in several stages to the inverse solubility region (i.e. solubility decreases with increasing temp.) and evapd. No build-up of scale occurs on the heat exchanger surfaces during the process.
