Air cooling system for upright wire coils after rolling - dissipates heat radiated by a coil to separating shields which are then cooled by cooling air flow
The rolled wire which is coiled at temps. of 900 to 1000 deg.C is cooled down after rolling by forced air flow directed on upright coils from below. The wire coils are cooled rapidly and uniformly and the material property becomes similar to those obtained on cooling in quiescent air. Heat is transferred by radiation from one coil to the shielded walls and the heat is finally removed by the air. Removal of this radiated heat at higher temperatures considerably accelerates the cooling rate. The coil stands upright on the transporter chain and cooling air is supplied by blowers. Side plates prevent heat radiation into the adjacent hall areas. Mutual heat transfer by radiation between the coil parts is prevented by internal concentric shields. Heat radiation between adjacent coils is prevented by vertical shields. The shielding components are lifted up and returned to the starting position at the ends of the cooling line.
