The surgical instrument for stitching wounds uses a curved needle which inserts the thread has a tubular part from which the thread is suspended, then pulled back by a body so that a previously formed knot loop is located on a member which slides on the area to be stitched. This body has a slider for carrying the loop during this operation, incorporating a channel for the thread. A mechanism automatically forms the loops for the knots, and supports the needle with a floating action, and has a device for securing the thread. The slider has a channel to receive and guide the needle. The surface on which the loops slide has two parallel convex surfaces and a concave cylindrical surface. The slider has a brake for the upper side of the thread.
