The scarf joint is for use between two pieces of sheet metal, particularly of boilers. The thickness of one or both sheets is reduced at its bent-over edge (b). This can be effected by stretching or rolling at the edge. The system allows the joint to be more easily formed. The boiler can have a plastics construction inner container (5). The thickness of the metal at the rolled joint is about 1.5 mm.
