The plate has two sheet metals (2) with different thickness and material properties. An edge area of the thicker sheet metal is rolled, such that the thickness of the thicker sheet metal in the edge area is reduced to the thickness of the thinner sheet metal (2). The edge areas of the sheet metals are laser welded by a butt weld seam (5), such that the sheet metals are joined with each other at their edge areas. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing sheet metal plates.
