Furnishing fabrics, having the same basic pattern, but differently coloured, are formed by combining a woven fabric with a non-woven fabric, by needling. The varied colours are introduced by the needling operation, using a series of lightly consolidated non-woven fabrics, formed of synthetic, thermoplastic fibres, and a slackly or coarsely woven fabric of the same synthetic material, having a basic pattern or design. The coloured, non-woven fabric comprises the lower layer of the assembled prod. A wide range of textile fabrics for furnishing may be provided very cheaply by needling a non-woven fabric to a coarsely woven fabric from underneath. The density and depth of needling may be used to alter the colour intensity and the decorative character. The handle and suppleness of such fabrics have been found to be improved by needling.
