The device detects present high voltage and marks the time point at which this voltage appears. For this purpose a measuring division is formed in relation to a given scale. The measuring division is formed by a spark gap (10) with two electrodes (12, 13) between which the spark path extends through a linear capillary tube (14). By this arrangement the break over spark can be used as a measuring division in ignition distributor testing stations, in order to mark ceratin angular positions of the distributor shaft on a scale. Preferably the spark gap is formed by a glass tube (11), in which the electrodes are sealed or cemented, while the capillary is formed by a restriction of the glass tube inner space.
