Paving slab handling truck - has grab with locking and releasing mechanism to hold jaws in open or gripping position

The truck (2) for picking up and depositing paving slabs has a grap mechanism which stays open after the slab has been deposited. The grab (22) can be fitted without disturbing the position of slabs already deposited. The grab has a cantilever arm (16) on which a frame (64) of the grab mechanism is suspended. The bottom of the frame carries a stationary jaw (66) and swinging jaw (68). The latter is operated by an arm (74) suspended from an element (60) in a slot (76). Once the load (92) is set down and the arm (16) is lowered, another arm (74) swinging down and the jaw (68) moves away from the load. At the same time a catch (84) engages the tip (86) of the second arm (84) so that when the first arm (16) is lifted again the grab remains open. To make it operational, the release arm (80) has to be operated.
