The marine engine for a small boat or fishing vessel has a fixed ratio reduction gearing and a fixed pitch propeller screw. The fuel intake of the engine is controlled to control the speed. The engine and transmission are designed so that with max. fuel injection and max. screw drag the safe working load of the engine is not exceeded. No gear box is required nor any complex propeller drive. For low drag conditions the fuel input is regulated so that the safe engine speed is not exceeded.
