Spark chamber for vacuum emission spectrometers - has sampling plate of thermally stable moulded laminated plastic

The spark chamber comprises a housing of moulded laminated plastics (20) on the underside of which is bolted a plate holding the anode electrode (23). The sampling plate (5) also is of a thermally stabilised moulded plastic material or bakelised paper and the surface opposite the anode is polished. The sampling palte has a central hole with spark centring plate which directs the spark to the material being investigated (3) which acts as the cathode. Between the material sample and the actual cathode electrode (42) is a solid copper plate (6) which acts as a heat conductor.
