Digitoxigenin mono:digitoxoside derivs. and isomers - useful as cardiotonic agents

Digitoxigenin derivs. of formula (I) are new: (where R is a gp. of formula (A), (B) or (C): where R1 and R2 are H or 1-4C alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or acyl, or R1 + R2 = CO, provided that R1 and R2 are not both H when R is a digitoxose residue; R3 and R4 are H or 1-4C alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or acyl). Cpds. (I) are cardiotonic agents with good enteral resorption and intestinal elimination characteristics and can thus be used in cases of renal insufficiency.
