Mass transfer trays has liquid feed from two sides in the same sense on each tray. The tray has a central support with baffle walls down the centre and only a central communication between the two sides of the tray. Liquor flows over the end where a weir is located. The liquor flows into a pair of downcomers which terminate in seal pans. These pans have a weir plate at the side over which the liquor flows onto a distributor plate. This has a series of holes and allows the liquor to flow down onto the frothing liquid on the plate below. For use in rectification columns. Trays with liquid flow in the same sense have far higher efficiency compared with conventional cross low and alternate liquor flow from tray to tray.
