Mass transfer tray for cryogenic rectification - has segmental construction with double passes and central and outer downcomers

Mass transfer system has vertical cylindrical form with inlet and outlet branches at suitable locations. It contains contact trays formed from two equal segments each containing a number of perforated sections. These are attached to central downcomer device. There are downcomers on the outer side also. Liquor flow is outwards from the centre on one pair of segments and into the centre on alternate trays. Thus the downcovers serve alternate trays, with the central downcomer being common for both on the trays with flow to the centre. For use in air rectification in cryogenic systems. Is of simple construction, is suitable for cryogenic application and gives improvement in the effectiveness of the heat transfer process.
