Solids are sepd. from liquids by a rotating perforated drum onto which a paper filter medium is laid. Filtration is achieved by subjecting the inside of the drum to a reduced pressure and forming a cake on the outside of the drum. The drum extends above the level of the liq. and over a certain portion of its surface, air is drawn through the cake. This displaces water and improves the dewatering effect of the filter. Used for filtering slurries of solids in liquids. Allows more efficient dewatering than conventional filters.
