Connection socket for implanted heart pacemaker electrode - has ceramic insert insulating socket contact from metal pacemaker casing

The socket (1) comprises a metal housing (2) and a ceramic insert (8) enclosing the socket contact and insulating it from the metal housing (2). A space is defined between the end face of the ceramic insert (8) and the surrounding rear part from which the socket contact projects, which is filled with a ceramic sealer (13). The thermal expansion of the latter in the temp. range between room temp. and the melting temp. is less than that of the material enclosing this space. Pref. the socket is directly attached to the metal casing (2) of the implanted pacemaker and lies inside the latter, with the socket contact (9) and the inserted electrode (3) forming a bayonet coupling. The socket contact (9) is surrounded by a Al2O3 ceramic insert (8) enclosed by a sleeve (10) soldered at the front edge to the pacemaker casing (1). The rear part of the socket contact (9) is surrounded by a ceramic filler (13) to prevent ingress of organic substances.
