The latent heat storage medium (I) consists of Na hydroxide monohydrate or aq. Na hydroxide contg. 64-74(67-71)% NaOH. This is in intimate content with a liq. heat transfer medium (II) which has a density which is at least 10%, pref. more than 20% lower in density than (I). for each 100 pts. wt. of (I), 0.01-2 (0.05-1) pts. wt. of =1 corrosion inhibitor is provided. Pref. (II) has an m.pt. of 0 degrees C (-20 degrees C) and consists of a hydrocarbon or an alkali resistant silicone oil, pref. paraffin oil. Good heat transfer between (I) and (II) is achieved.
