The two-stage compound gas turbine installation has a first stage comprising a two-stage compressor. This consists of a low-pressure turbo-compressor, intermediate cooler and second-stage piston compressor. The compressor output charges a Diesel engine driving it whose exhaust drives the first turbine stage. The output from a second turbo-compressor is mixed with the turbine outlet and fed to the combustion chamber of the second turbine stage. The turbo-compressors and turbine stages are arranged on a common shaft which is the output shaft of the installation.
