The rapid-action brake accelerator is intended for an indirectly operating pneumatic brake system of a rail vehicle. It comprises a piston (6) with the main air line (HL) pressure on one side, which is moved to open a vent valve (22, 24) under the action of throttle (54) pressure in a chamber (8) on the other side. The connection from the main line (HL) to the throttle (54) contains a spring-loaded (44') valve (40), on which the main line pressure acts in closing direction, in accordance with 2729848. The valve is operated by a piston (46') loaded in closing direction by pressure in a connection (32) between the valve and the throttle (54) against the spring (44') and pressure in the chamber (8). The spring is tensioned to open the valve when the differential pressure across the piston drops below a predetermined value.
