Compsn. contains a substd. m-phenylene diamine coupler having formula m-H2N-C6H4-NHR (I), where R is -CH2-COOH, -CH2CH2NH2 or -CH2CONH2 or its inorganic or organic salt and standard oxidn. dye developers. Developer-coupler combination content of compsn. is 0.2-5 (1-3) wt.%. The developers include prim. aromatic amines contg. a further functional gp. in p-position, diamino-pyridine derivs., heterocyclic hydrazone derivs., 4-amino-pyrazolone derivs., tetraamino-pyrimidines. Dyeing can take place in 30 min., in a weakly acidic, neutral or esp. alkaline medium, at pH 8-10, at 15-40 degrees C. (I) are soluble in water, resist storage, are non-toxic and do not irritate the skin.
