The programming and storage system has a decoder driven by a binary counter and generating a sequence of logic states and passing them via an array of switches to an electronic percussion instrument. The rhythm produced in this way is written into a digital store with random access. The address inputs of this store are coupled to a binary counter. The rhythms or parts of rhythms retained in the store can be linked together by combining their addresses in any manner. To this end, the addresses are alos retained in a store. A pulse generator of variable frequency drives a 4-bit counter whose outputs are connected to the decoder. The decoder's outputs can be switched through to the percussion instrument.
