The defibrillation appts., for heart resuscitation, has the defibrillation electrodes (8a, 8b, 8c) secured around the thorax (2a) of the patient via a vest (6), which can be inflated pneumatically or hydraulically. The vest (6) is double skinned and is air-and water-tight, so that it can be inflated in its entirety. It is made of flexible material and has enlarged inflation chambers (7a, 7b) on the left hand side at front and back for anterior-posterior defibrillation, via flexible anterior and posterior defibrillation electrodes, (8a, 8b). It may have additional inflation chambers (7c, 7d) and defibrillation electrodes (8c) on the right hand side. A similar system can be used to maintain ECG electrodes in contact with the patient.
