The lock assembly is fitted esp. in motor vehicle doors. there is a rotatable core in a cylinder case, engaging spring-loaded tumblers in grooves, sorted into the core by tracks in a flat key shaft, for key insertion. The shaft (27) of the key (20) has a narrowed section (22) behind the tracks cut in it. In the corresponding area the cylinder has a non-rotatable blocking plate with narrowed screening opening. This is dimensioned in accordance with key channel cross-section only in the direction of the core's initial rotational setting and otherwise has an opening width corresponding to the key's narrowed section.
