Electrochemical battery, esp. prim. button cell - where seal between cup and lid is formed by soft plastic sealing ring supported by two hard plastic sealing rings

Cell has an elastic seal located between the cell housing or cup and its lid. The seal is formed by a sealing ring (1) made of soft plastic and partly in contact with both the cup and the lid; the remaining surfaces of ring (1) are in contact with two ring seals (4,5) made of a hard plastic, so ring (1) is firmly located. The three rings (1,4,5) pref. have projections so they can be snapped into the desired positions; and the rings (1,4,5) may be bonded to each other, or to the cup or lid, by an adhesive. One or both hard rings (4,5) may be sprayed onto the soft ring; and/or the rings (1,4,5) may be sprayed on to the cup or the lid. High sealing pressures can be used to ensure an effective seal during the entire working life of the cell, without causing uncontrolled cold flow of the seal.
