Resistance spot welding of motor vehicle bodies - using welding tool mounted on pyramidal assembly of levers providing universal movement

The welding tool consists of a conventional cylinder, at the tip of a pyramidal assembly of crank levers, suspended from an overhead carrier. The pyramidal assembly pref. has an axis (14) round which two crank levers can be driven; the two levers are connected at their free ends to two more levers mounted on a pivot axis on the welding cylinder or gun. The pyramidal assembly can pref. be rotated in its overhead carrier; and driving motors are pref. included to actuate the crank levers. The welding gun can pref. be rotated on a vertical axis and swivelled on a horizontal axis.
