Device for extrusion of uniformly dimensioned polyamide or polyester adhesive melting strands has a single, single stage worm screw whose compression ratio varies from 1:2 to 1:3.2 (1:2.5 to 1:2.9) and rhe mixing zone (IV) has alternately disposed mixing and shearing regions. Each zone may contain 2 to 4 regions and the length of mixing region may vary from 0.4-1.5 (0.9) worm screw dia. Pref. the length of a shearing region varies from 0.1 to 0.5 (0.2) dia.
