A method for the production of mineral fiber concrete as well as mineral fibers for the same

The concrete contains Portland cement as binder, and the mineral fibres consist of a puzzolan which forms calcium aluminate hydrate on reaction with the free lime of the Portland cement, and the concrete also contains lime-binding substances which promote this reaction in a controlled fashion. At the same time the reaction to form the calcium aluminate hydrate takes place only at the surface of the fibre, so that, provided the fibre is of adequate thickness, it will perform its reinforcing function for a long time. Suitable puzzolans from which such fibres can be made have a softening point of above 1000 DEG C. They are therefore suitable for reinforcing fire-resistant components. The fibre reinforcement can be introduced into the concrete in the form of mixtures of loose fibre sections, as a laid fibre web or as a laid woven fabric.
