A transverse holder (10) which is secured across the middle of the car roof and holds two spring loaded roller blind (16, 17) to pull out over the front and rear of the vehicle as a sun blind. The blinds pull out using control lines (22) which serve to clamp the blinds to the front and rear bumpers. When not in use the blinds retract into the protective housing. The housing has front and rear flaps (25, 26) to protect the returned blinds. The blinds are simple to operate and provide a rapid protection when the vehicle is left in the sun.
